Our spring concert will be on Saturday April 2nd, 2022, 7:30 pm and marks our return, after a long absence, to St Paul’s Church, Compstall. Planned works are Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, Will Todd’s jazzy Stabat Mater, Jonathan Dove’s Bless the Lord, O My Soul, and a couple of pieces from our guest soloists.Fauré’s masterpiece is, rightly, one of the most popular pieces in the choral repertoire (and even found its way into the soundtrack of a zombie movie!1) Dove and Todd are contemporary composers working in different styles, both producing works that are challenging to the choir whilst very accessible to the audience.
Since Marple Choral Society last sang in St Paul’s, the church has had major refurbishment, notably bringing the staircase to the balcony inside the church, and making the whole of the seating much more comfortable. There is (limited) parking available on site, and plenty of overspill at the Etherow Country Park.
