The Team

Members of Marple Choral Society sing for the love of singing.  We are coached and supported by professional and semi-professional musicians.  We alo have the inevitable managementent committee.

Ian1Ian Crawford,  Musical Director

As a performing musician, Ian sings with several chamber choirs and as a deputy lay clerk at Liverpool Metropolitan and Anglican cathedrals.  Concert performances range from Bach’s St Matthew Passion (Tilford Bach Society/ Laurence Cummings) to backing Snow Patrol on Later…with Jools Holland.
Ian is currently Director of Music at The King’s School in Macclesfield.

James2James Pelham, Accompanist

In addition to playing the piano for the society’s rehearsals, James stands in for Ian at the drop of a hat (or, on one occasion, the break of an arm) to direct rehearsals.  He has even been known to supplement the singers.

Stockport Symphony Orchestra

Orchestral accompaniment for our performances of larger-scale works is provided by Stockport Symphony Orchestra.

Many choral works are written for soloists and chorus, so we bring in professional soloists as required. We also have, from time to time, a number of singers in our ranks who are capable of performing solos; here, fore example, is our very own George Hulbert, taking the bass solo role in Haydn’s Creation.

The Management

As you would expect, Marple Choral Society has a management committee.

In addition to the usual committee roles of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, the Musical Director is an ex-officio committee member and we have the specialist roles of Librarian and Concert Secretary. (There are also a number of ordinary members who may do extraordinary things.)

Chairman Gill (singing, not shouting at the committee)

Secretary Sandy (who didn’t want to be pictured singing)

Half the Bass section is called John.  This is John the Money

Steve the Librarian procures our musical scores.
